Remembrance Day - November 11 2020

Soldiers Honoured at Araluen’s Remembrance Ceremony

Araluen’s Remembrance Day will be held from The Grove of the Unforgotten, which was built in memory of the 88 Young Australia League members who made the ultimate sacrifice in World War I, with the first ceremony held at the site in 1934.

A series of pencil pines has been planted in the form of a lyre, the symbol of as the majority of the men who sacrificed their life were from the League’s department.

Araluen Botanic ’s General Manager Suzy Parravicini said it will be wonderful to welcome both veterans and young people of the area for this special Remembrance Day ceremony.

“In 2019 we were delighted to welcome Ric Giblett OAM JP, ex- President of the Serpentine-Jarrahdale Sub-Branch and veteran as our guest speaker on the day,” Suzy said.

Students from throughout the City of Armadale will be invited to attend; perform and will have the opportunity to mingle with the veterans at morning , after the event.

“It is wonderful that Araluen will set the scene for an intergenerational gathering, commemorating lives sacrificed, and helping students learn more about the role Armadale residents played in defending the nation,” Suzy said.

The event is organised in partnership with the Department of Veterans' Affairs and the Roleystone Community Vocal Group.
